Graves Announce New Album ‘Gary Owens: I Have Some Thoughts’

Released via Perpetual Doom and Curly Cassettes.

Graves, the longstanding music project of California-based Greg Olin, has teamed up with Perpetual Doom and Curly Cassettes to release his latest album "I Have Some Thoughts" under the new name Gary Owens. The album features sixteen tracks that infuse classic country sounds with a laidback West Coast vibe, creating a nostalgic atmosphere that harkens back to simpler times. Olin's ballad "Time Wasted" evokes the Nashville sound of Roger Miller and Merle Haggard, while "Atchee Ketchee" adds a fun, kitschy element to the album. Half of the album was recorded during the pandemic, and Olin describes the process as exciting, akin to eagerly awaiting a check or a fresh pair of socks via snail mail.

Throughout the album, Graves explores themes of aging and mortality in a way that is both clever and humorous, reminiscent of the late David Berman's projects. The album features contributions from several talented musicians, including Nick Aives, Cory Gray, Rusty Miller, and Jason Cirimele. The lead single, "Little Dumb Dogs," captures the album's wistful tone with lyrics that ask, "What's a bird to do but fly away?"
