8 Albums We Can’t Wait For In 2022

From electropop superstar Charli XCX, rap icon Kendrick Lamar, to resurrected from 2019’s ashes Mitski, this year everyone keeps us on our toes.

2022 has barely started and we’re already can’t sit still listening to the 2021 gems but are eager to dig deep for the new ones. Good news: a lot of our beloved artists are releasing this year. No matter what we fancy, it seems like our appetites will be satisfied with the diverse choice of genres, themes and narratives. If you’re not sure what dates you should circle on your must-heard music calendar, we rush with help.

Here are 8 albums that we’re on the verge of dying for. Patience might be a virtue but a little sin never killed nobody. Especially if there’s a high chance it’s gonna sound so sweet.

100 Gecs

100 Gecs are something else than a hyperpop duo. After the 2019 release of a debut album ‘1000 Gecs’ and 2020 remix of it featuring collabs with Charli XCX, Rico Nasty and Fall Out Boy, ‘1000 Gecs and The Tree Of Clues’, their existence extended beyond strictly musical experience. They’ve become an electro-ridden wave, flooding our open to any experimentations heads. Now, after recovering from that brain-melting and genre-smashing phenomenon, we’re ready for getting crushed again under the, teased last year, new project ‘10000 Gecs’.

Kendrick Lamar

Can you believe it’s almost 5 years since ‘DAMN'.’ dropped? We neither. It’s about time for Kendrick to score another Grammy, Pulitzer and hit refresh on his international sensation status button. Even though in 2018, he curated the Black Panther soundtrack and made some surprise appearances on other artists tracks (Baby Keem, Nipsey Hussle, U2), it ain’t the same. The announcement of the 2022 tour during his iconic Super Bowl half-time performance or Adele listening few of his unreleased songs, seem to be signs hinting at the obvious. We can’t just ignore them. Kendrick has been AWOL for a while but we feel like he's bound to come back ASAP.

Joey Bada$$

After a heated affair with acting, resulting in a few hot-selling performances, Joey Bada$$ reveals a new music project dropping this year. Once again, he’s a force to be reckoned with as he took some time to reflect on his career and replenish creative sources. A lot of them went into his 2017 hard-hitting bestseller ‘All-Amerikkkan Bada$$’' so Joey’s excited to announce new sonic slaps to come. As he's pretty vague about the date so far, expecting some mysterious rappers to come through, all that’s left for us is to wait. Let's smash the old stuff and stare at the Spotify horizon as there’s apparently a new single, ‘Joey’s Revenge’, approaching soon.

Mitski

During a show in 2019, in Ziggy Stardust’s style, Mitski announced that it was her last performance ever. Burned out and suffocating under the industry’s hand always pressing on her precious nect, she decided to step down. Perhaps even start a brand new career. After a year-long break filled with solo-guitar soul pouring and any personal rituals needed to wash away the grim of the mainstream music world, Mitski decided to come back to the craziness on her own terms and with a new album. While ‘Be The Cowboy’ could be a cry for help among the chaos, we hope that ‘Laurel Hell’ has learnt to stand still in it.

Charli XCX

Charli XCX is set to return with her poppiest record to date. Expect some epic features from Christine and The Queens, Caroline Polachek, Rina Sawayama and Oneohtrix Point Never. Charli will be playing a massive show at London's Alexandra Palace this summer to celebrate the release of her new album 'Crash'.

FKA Twigs

This year Twigs’ wants to process melancholy differently, following up her 2019 conceptual masterpiece ‘MAGDALENE’, she’s just announced a new mixtape ‘Caprisongs’. It’s coming out this Friday and features collabs with some of the coolest artists on the scene from Pa Salieu to Shygirl. The mixtape is a celebration of friendship and the small, fleeting moments. For the first time, Twigs’ let herself explore the lighter side of things.“Caprisongs… it’s bronzer in the sink, alco pop on the side, a cherry lolly, apple juice when you’re thirsty, friends in the park, your favourite person, that one sentence somebody said to you that changed everything, a club pre-game, your bestie who is always late but brings the most to the party, meeting a friend at the airport, just togetherness,” she shares in Instagram post.

The Smile

Fans of early Radiohead can rejoice in the fact that Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood have started a new, post-punk inspired project titled The Smile. If their recent debut single is anything to go by, listeners can expect to be thrusted into a guitar-driven, head-banging ode to some of Thom and Jonny's early influences i.e The Smiths.

Jack White

It's been a while since Jack put out something substantial and with speculation of him releasing two albums in 2022, we can't wait to hear what Mr. White has in store. Having recently opened a new Third Man Records near Carnaby Street in London, let's hope we get to hear a few of these new songs live this year.
