Alabama Shakes Have Just Announced Their First New Album In Over A Decade
The wait is finally over as Alabama Shakes return with their first album in more than a decade.
Titled I Must Be Dreaming, the record will arrive on August 28 via Island Records and marks the band’s third studio album, following 2015’s Sound & Color. The announcement also comes with news of a new single, ‘I Feel Hope Coming’, which is set for release on July 10.
Produced by Alabama Shakes alongside Shawn Everett, the album was recorded in Nashville at Sound Emporium Studios and Blackbird Studio. According to the band, I Must Be Dreaming leans into a more textured, psychedelic soul sound, with songs exploring love, mortality, connection and the contradictions of modern life.
"This younger generation makes me feel hopeful because they can see through all the political lies - that song's about holding onto that hope, and refusing to give up," says Brittany Howard on the track. Heath Fogg adds, "I'm really happy that song exists. It came from such a joyful moment of collaboration, and exemplifies everything I love about this band being reborn."
The album follows the previously released singles ‘Another Life’ and ‘American Dream’, and was written after the band reunited in late 2024. The record also sees the group expanding their sound with flute, harpsichord, sitar and layered vocal arrangements.
Alabama Shakes are currently on a worldwide headline tour, with upcoming dates across Europe and North America. The run includes festival appearances, a Radio City Music Hall show in New York on September 2, co-headline performances with Tedeschi Trucks Band and select stadium dates supporting Zach Bryan.
