Alien Chicks Release Infectious New Single ‘Woodlouse’
The future is bright for this post-punk power trio, and people are rightly excited to see what comes next.
Alien Chicks’ rapid rise in popularity in the London music scene, centred around their home at the Windmill Brixton, has been mirrored by an evolution in their sound. The three-piece are constantly writing and gigging, bringing in new songs every few gigs that twist and turn in energy and genre.
Their new single Woodlouse in a banger from start to finish, with an eerily catchy ‘lalalala’ hook in the backing vocals that will linger in your head for days. The song builds in classic Alien Chicks style from an isolated bass riff at the beginning, to a chaotic climax at the end with layers of every instrument and all three band members screaming ‘an adjudicator, couch potato, secret collector, talk to you later!’ In the band’s own words, Woodlouse is ‘a song written about people who judge others or form prejudices from a distance, following crowds like sheep, when they have no real basis on which to do this. The song title was inspired by the haircut of one of these people, who was our classmate at school’.
‘Woodlouse’ is just one of an incredible repertoire of songs that form the band’s exhilarating live set – many of the best ones are unreleased. Candlestick Maker, Steve Buscemi (a fan favourite), Mr Muscle and many more get the mosh pits going every time.
Alien Chicks have sold out the Windmill Brixton for the fourth time for their single launch party (Friday 23rd September), where they’ll be joined by the mysterious ‘The King’s Arms’, Gag Salon, and Neuroplacid. They are hosting karaoke afterwards into the early hours, a post-gig ritual that they have become known for on the South London circuit. A music video for ‘Woodlouse’ is also coming up, set in an old hotel with the band dressed as hotel porters, and featuring some familiar characters doing bizarre surreal things in each room.
