Download 2026 Brings Together Rock’s Heavyweights And Its Rising Names

Download is a melting pot for stadium-ready arena rock highlighting genre veterans and groundbreaking new voices on the scene.

Download festival is for your stadium ready, 02 Arena multiple-night sellout, Wembley-level bands. Removed from the comparatively small BUT no less mighty fields of 2000 Trees or Arctangent it’s gigantic by comparison – and with that, comes some of the biggest bands for a celebration of the scene. Renowned for its muddy fields or scorching hot summer weather; Download can be a potluck in terms of what you’re in for on the day. But for fans of the genre it’s an annual pilgrimage, something akin to religion. Download is something you don’t go for the lineup, it’s just an added bonus: you go for the experience, a weekend of silly, fun, good times with your mates in the most insane high-energy festival scene imaginable. With that comes a lineup ripe and ready demonstrating the best of the metal scene; and it’s a great opportunity to spotlight some of the mammoth genre bands that Download have booked to give the festival its oomph and status it needs to remain the heaviest hitter in the game.

Taking place in Donington Park in Leicestershire England, with more than 100 bands playing on several stages and 75,000-80,000 attendees strong, it captures the heat of the rock scene in the best way possible. A multi-day festival with Wednesday and Thursday entry passes available as well as illustrious VIP stages; Download XXIII’s main event takes place across its three days – 12th to the 14th June. Its headliners all celebrate the old guard of rock whilst giving way to something new: Limp Bizkit, nu metal titans from Jacksonville Florida lead by lead vocalist Fred Durst, capture the edgy vibes of the genre, and then Guns ‘n’ Roses offer fans the opportunity to see the band play ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ live. Sunday 14th is reserved for the new guard: the latest chapter of Linkin Park, led by new frontwoman Emily Armstrong, hot on the heels of their debut album for this new chapter: ‘From Zero’; their 2024 release, and the bands’ first album in seven years, now a few years into touring as a band. Expect the classics delivered with a new voice: that remains faithful to Chester’s vision.

New genre spotlight stage Dogtooth looks as always like the hidden gem and the most exciting part of Download festival. Across the weekend, pop-punk bands like lake malice, rock outfit Elder, and Lowen Iranian-fronted heavy metal band Lowen make stay for their claims as future stars in the rising – Nina Saedi herself the daughter of Iranian refugees. Heavy festival stalwarts Conjurer are present too, and Blood Incarnation adore the headline of Dogtooth on Saturday – whilst journeying into the Sunday you get another chance to see rising metal outfit Annisokay following their tour that incorporated numetal giants Heart of a Coward and rising outfit The Narrator (2026 maybe a year too early for them to be at Download), alongside American industrial old guard Static X. This blend of new music and old icons is the best thing Download can do for us: as we journey up the ladder, things only start to get bigger.

Avalanche’s Kerrang-hosted stage promises a spotlight of the kind of acts that would sell out say, the Roundhouse, Kentish Town or higher. Manchester’s power poppers Hot Milk took aim at society with Corporation P.O.P in 2025, and are back now as an instant favourite of the 14th. The same day gives us Marmozets; and rising outfit Frozemode, who are also at a Download-sponsored stage at tastemaker festival The Great Escape; like Native James, a rap-punk alternative outfit set to have his moment in the sun after supporting Bob Vylan in 2025 in Birmingham. I also rate riot grrll-influenced punk rock outfit Die Spitz – similar in tone to the likes of Lambrini Girls and SPRINTS and aren’t afraid to kick out a storm. Across the weekend, there’s time for hardcore/emo outfit Rain City Drive, early 2000s throwback emo-enforcers Story of the Year, and pop punk icons Magnolia Park. This ability to cater to all fans of all music heavy and loud from across the spectrum from Slamdunk veterans to Arctangent prog makes Download the catch-all festival – you can see why it’s a pilgrimage and we’re not even at the big names yet. It’s almost criminal to see Letlive. that low down the billing, one of the undisputed highlights of 2025 Jera on Air. Headliners here are Scooter, The All American Rejects and Feeder – stadium ready arena rock where you’re surely have a good time.

We’re now at the Opus Stage, and this is where it’s at: Halestorm and Architects headline, and both have had times in the sun at venues like the 02 Arena – following up their 2025 album tours with a festival ready slot – both Everest and The Sky, the Earth & All Between have left a seismic impact on the scene. Mould are also worth an inclusion here: as the genre bending drifts into noise. From the undercard, Paleface Swiss brought the fire and the fury to Troxy to kickstart 2026 in style with their album Cursed, and further up the billing the likes of Keanu Reeves’ band Dogstar, and prog heavy hitters thrown make the Sunday appointment booking. Tom Morello, Rage Against the Machine activist recently played with Bruce Springsteen at ground zero for the resistance against ICE and Trump in Minneapolis, and looks set to tear up Download showing his incredible skill. Mastodon bring the heavy metal energy and there’s also room for pop punk on Sunday, A Day to Remember – who offer up sheer delight.

Ready yet? No? good. We’re now at Apex, Download’s titanic main stage – and what a weekend you have. Kublai Khan TX offer perspective of bloody, unfiltered energy, unpeople show their status as one of the fastest rising metal outfits, and the likes of Landmvrks, South Arcade and Thornhill deliver real star power. ADHD activist/campaigner RØRY is one of the best acts of the whole weekend, and that’s before you get to Japanese metallers Baby Metal, heavy dance icons Pendulum and icons Bad Omens who are fresh off touring Alexandra Palace. Trivium – who headlined Bloodstock last year; are given the second billing behind Guns N’ Roses for a surely brutal day – possibly my favourite rock band of that size.

All that and more with VIP performances by bands like Bristol heavy outfit Knives and afterparties well into the evening for the perfect place to revel with your mates, Download XXIII is unmissable and a vital step on the festival calendar. No matter the weather you’ll have a good time and if you’re into rock music and haven’t done it yet? What are you waiting for?

Download XXIII runs 12-14 June 2026. Book your tickets here
