Former black midi Member Cameron Picton Announces Debut Album From My New Band Believe

Former black midi bassist Cameron Picton steps into a new chapter with the announcement of My New Band Believe’s self-titled debut album and the release of stand-alone single ‘Numerology’.

Former black midi bassist and sometime frontman Cameron Picton has announced the debut album from his new project, My New Band Believe. The self-titled record will be released on 10 April 2026 via Rough Trade Records, with the announcement arriving alongside the release of stand-alone single ‘Numerology’.

‘Numerology’ is described as an exclusive non-album track and will feature on a bonus 10” included with special editions of the LP, as well as on a limited edition Deluxe CD. Built around barrelling instrumental dance rhythms, the track leans into chance and risk, weighing the potential for disaster against the thrill of momentum and movement.

The origins of My New Band Believe trace back to a period of illness while Picton was travelling in China. Delirious in a hotel room, he experienced flashes of strange imagery and fragmented phrases, later reshaping these ideas into songs. One phrase lingered in particular and would go on to give the project its name.

During his time in black midi, Picton helped shape an explosive approach to musical world-building, threading dense narratives through tightly controlled chaos. When the band came to an end in 2023, he resisted immediately forming another conventional group or making a solo record. Instead, he entered the studio from a more uncertain position, allowing the sound and structure of My New Band Believe to gradually take form.

The resulting album is expansive but light on its feet. Largely acoustic and sparing in its use of reverb and electronics, the record remains richly detailed and dynamic. Full string arrangements lift and scatter throughout, with songs forming, collapsing, and regrouping as they push into one another.

Across the record, Picton acts as an unreliable yet charismatic narrator, guiding listeners through a shifting dream logic populated by collaborators including Kiran Leonard, Caius Williams, Steve Noble, and Andrew Cheetham. The album moves through wildly different emotional and thematic registers, arriving as a hallucinatory and ambitious debut that positions Picton firmly in his own space as a bandleader.

Alongside the album announcement, My New Band Believe have confirmed a run of UK headline dates across April and May 2026, including a London show at EartH on 2 May.
