Primavera Festival Highlights: Mid-Week Madness
With weekend one out the way we were set to enjoy some of the mid-week venue shows.
As we embark on the second leg of our Primavera Sound journey, our uncertainty of what day it is or who we are anymore has truly been over taken by festival revelry. The only thing we do know is what act is next on the bill and tonight, we found ourselves in a line of equally excited music lovers outside of Razmatazz, all hoping to catch Jenny Beth, Beck and Kero Kero Bonito. Unfortunately, tonight was a night where we just got pipped to the post and the doors closed metres in front of us. Tonight we will try and live the night through instagram stories. We got greedy trying to catch Beck for the second time at Razmatazz and maybe it was karma for our gluttony that made us just miss getting into Barcelona’s famous club. We still have that epic earlier show to look back on with fond memories. After all, not seeing the same artist perform twice days after the first time, is a very first world problem to have.
06/06/2022 La Nau Primavera La Cituat / Jockstrap
Not to miss out on Primavera’s a La Cituat’s offerings tonight, we got down to tonight’s venue earlier than necessary to ensure our attendance. Poblenou’s “unique music creation space” La Nau has a smaller capacity compared to the other sites that embellish the Primavera a la Citutat line-up. But there was something cool about that. As tonight’s elusive headliners: Jockstrap, open for us, the atmosphere felt even more special. “Acid” is the first track, Georgia Ellery’s and Taylor Skye’s silhouettes rise on the stage, like two monuments beckoning both industrial beats and gentle vocals. Jockstrap have concocted the perfect audio aperitif, their techy production and poppy melodies are blended just right. “Concrete Over Water” is a great example of this. By the end of the night it’s like we are teenagers again, bouncing off the walls to “50/50.” There was something appealing about seeing Jockstrap in this intimate setting, getting to see artists before they undoubtably get big is a self-congratulatory feeling that is hard to shake.
07/06/2022 Primavera La Cituat PARAL.LEL 62 / L'Impératrice
This evening’s soundtrack is brought to you by Nu Disco idols, L’Impératrice. It’s a joyous party (and the most we’ve ever danced on a Tuesday) from start to finish as the six piece fill Paral.lel 62’s stage. Not ones to hold back when it comes to attire, glowing hearts are tonight’s chosen accessory. The six-piece and audience celebrate L’Impératrice’s well established funk-influenced-retro-pop sound together. At one point cheers from the audience force the band to pause their setlist and soak in the adoration.
We danced too much at L’Impératrice, so much so, that we missed the show at Poble Espanyol the next day. Predictably, the Primavera organisers have us covered, as all the acts that we missed on 09/06/2022 are playing later this week (phew).
