Primavera Sound Offers Day Ticket Refunds And Apology Following Opening Day Mayhem

Festivalgoers have criticised a lack of communication after storms forced cancellations, delays and repeated schedule changes across Parc del Fòrum.

Primavera Sound has apologised to attendees and announced refunds for day ticket holders after severe weather disrupted the opening day of this year's festival in Barcelona. Storms moving across the city on Thursday forced organisers to suspend performances across the site, leading to a confusing evening of delays, cancellations and changing announcements that left many attendees unsure whether artists would be performing.

One of the first major cancellations involved Alex G and Mac DeMarco. In a statement shared through the festival's channels, organisers said: "Due to adverse weather conditions, Alex G's performance on the Revolut Stage has been cancelled and Mac DeMarco's performance on the Occident Stage have been cancelled."

As conditions worsened, performances on the main stage were temporarily halted, with screens informing attendees that "due to adverse weather conditions, performances on this stage have been temporarily suspended."

The disruption quickly spread across the festival site. Massive Attack's headline set appeared to be cancelled and evacuated before reports emerged that the performance would go ahead after all, prompting some attendees to return to Parc del Fòrum. The set was ultimately called off, adding to growing frustration among festivalgoers who felt communication from organisers was unclear throughout the evening. Doja Cat's scheduled appearance was also affected as organisers struggled to adapt to the rapidly changing conditions.

While many attendees acknowledged that the weather itself was beyond the festival's control, criticism has focused on how information was communicated. Social media feeds, WhatsApp groups and Reddit threads quickly filled with confused attendees attempting to verify whether performances were happening, cancelled or delayed.

Adding to the frustration, Primavera Sound later confirmed that day ticket holders would receive compensation, while attendees who purchased full festival passes remain without an equivalent refund offer at the time of writing. The festival has since issued an apology to those affected, describing the weather conditions as exceptional and thanking attendees for their patience. The disruption comes as Primavera Sound hosts another packed edition of the Barcelona festival, with thousands of music fans travelling from across the world to attend performances throughout the weekend.

Further updates regarding refunds and any additional compensation are expected from organisers in the coming days.
