Whitney Return With Heartfelt New Single “Darling”

New single “Darling” arrives alongside announcement of 2025 North American headline tour.

Chicago duo Whitney return with their first new material since 2023’s Spark, sharing the intimate and emotionally-charged single “Darling.” The track offers a tender reflection on goodbyes, channelling the spirit of short-form songwriting heroes like Dolly Parton and Big Star. “There’s something to be said for a 2 minute-or-less gem that aims for the heart,” the band explain. “‘Darling’ transitions into a second act that serves to accept a goodbye instead of leaving it up in the air but we think the song ultimately feels like it's over too soon in the best way possible.”

“Darling” marks the beginning of a busy new chapter for Whitney, who have also announced a headline North American tour for summer 2025. Kicking off on July 20 in Lake Tahoe, CA, the run includes stops across Canada and the East Coast before wrapping up in the Midwest, with support from Melbourne’s Folk Bitch Trio. Ahead of their own shows, Whitney will also open for Caamp and Shakey Graves at select amphitheatre dates throughout June and July. Tickets are on sale now via whitneytheband.com.

Formed in 2015 by former Smith Westerns guitarist Max Kakacek and Unknown Mortal Orchestra drummer Julien Ehrlich, Whitney quickly rose to prominence with their acclaimed debut Light Upon the Lake (2016). The record’s standout single “No Woman” helped earn the band Pitchfork’s coveted Best New Music tag and established them as one of indie music’s most quietly powerful voices. Since then, they’ve continued to evolve across releases like Forever Turned Around (2019), the covers LP Candid (2020), and their most sonically expansive album yet, Spark (2022).
