Gig Review: Magma Festival 2026
Hot as hell, Berlin’s RSO comes alive for a sun-soaked weekend of electronic music, avant-pop and effortlessly playful chaos.
Magma Festival was blessed with a rare kind of perfect Berlin summer weather. And if there were a festival to epitomise the dizzy midsummer mood, it would be Magma. Despite the breadth of styles across the lineup, every artist brought a sense of lightness and fun that perfectly matched the balmy, sun-soaked weekend. The programme spanned international acts and an eclectic mix of genres that, on paper, might have seemed unexpected, but worked together with a harmonious, powerful energy. As Erika de Casier remarked during her Saturday set, “I don't usually play at these events, but this is such a vibe!” The two-day festival took place on 8–9 August at Berlin's RSO, with performances spread across the Valley and Opan stages.
The programme featured a range of live and DJ sets. Saturday highlights included Erika de Casier's dreamy vocals floating over effortlessly groovy production, balancing energy and serenity. Into the evening, Deki Alem burst in with an infectious blend of 2000s-reminiscent hip-hop, modern drum ’n’ bass and dance sounds. Over on the Opan stage, Doudou MD delivered a delicious all-vinyl set weaving house and techno, driven by body-heavy basslines and irresistible breaks.
The energy stayed strong into Sunday. Sophia Stell switched up the vibe with a grungy, avant-pop performance before Yaeji leaned into her signature blend of dub, bass-heavy house and pop. As the sun set, Six Sex raised the temperature even further with an electric performance and powerful stage presence. On the Opan stage, Mietze Conte brought a super fun and bouncy set, using their vocals and MC skills over fast-paced hyper-pop beats. Their charisma was undeniable, with the packed dancefloor shouting along to “Fuck ICE, Fuck Trump.” The Dare played on the Valley stage on Sunday evening with an electroclash DJ set that maintained his indie-sleaze sound.
Berlin's electronic music scene is known for its sometimes dark and serious aesthetic, which made Magma feel especially refreshing. With a fantastic lineup and laidback vibe, the festival felt effortlessly playful, perfect for a dreamy summer weekend.
