Gurriers release new single ‘Nothing Happens Twice’ and announce a new UK outstore tour
Ahead of album number two NOBODY’S COMING TO SAVE YOU, Irish industrial post-punk outfit Gurriers release a new single ‘Nothing Happens Twice’ and launch a new outstore tour.
Following what has been billed on social media as a “Gurriers summer” featuring memorable shows at Crystal Palace Park supporting Kneecap and playing at festival proving ground The Great Escape, Gurriers return with an in-store album launch tour ahead of the new album, released September 25, via their new home Play it Again Sam.
The intense guitar revelry that accompanies ‘Nothing Happens Twice’ draws from Samuel Beckett’s ‘Waiting for Godot’ alongside the ‘dead internet’ theory that prevails the current digital age. It’s an indictment of digital alienation and political “nothing ever changes” no matter who you vote for theories that accompanies the dread and despair of ‘Nobody’s Coming to Save You’s thunderous title track; rich with thematically relevant lyrics: “getting ready for the weekend / while they fear a war,” frontman Dan Hoff roars. If one word could be used to sum up the three tracks we have heard thus so far it is “frustration” – with politics, the digital age, the lack of hope and sense of despair. It is Gurriers’ state of the nation record – tapped in with political themes that was present on ‘Come and See’ but taken to new heights here.
The music video of ‘Nothing Happens Twice’ resembles almost at times the folk horror of Mark Jenkin and ‘Enys Men’ - directed by Thomas James of Kneecap and Young Fathers fame. For the video itself, James talked about how it was shot in band members Pierce O’Callaghan (Drummer) and Mark MacCormack’s (guitarist) hometown of Castleblayney, turning it into a ‘psycho fairy trip through grief and ritual”. Visually distinctive and appealing it sets the mood for ‘Nothing Happens Twice’ instantly. Already played at The Great Escape back in May a few months before release; fans were well prepared for the music - shouting back long before the lyrics have been released officially.
Premiered by Huw Stephens on Radio 6 Music; ‘Nothing Happens Twice’ continues the momentum of Gurriers going into album number two that comes with it, a UK and Ireland outstore record shop tour for September. Their electrifying live performances are hyper kinetic, rowdy and always able to reach boiling points; exploding into full force at any given motion. KEXP’s live performance has gone down a storm, driving ‘Party Lines’ as an early fan-favourite. The September tour features shows across Dublin, Edinburg, Dundee, Liverpool, Nottingham, Cardiff and Oxford – including the likes of Rough Trade, Spindizzy, Assai Records, Jacaranda and Truck Store – as well as Oxford’s iconic Bullingdon venue. This all builds up for their main tour in October – hitting venues like London’s Electric Brixton.
Gurriers’ second album will be released on 25 September 2026 via Play It Again Sam. Recorded between Attica Studios in Donegal and Holy Mountain Studios in London, the album was produced by Mark Bowen and Loren Humphrey.
