This Is Lorelei releases new single ‘Oh No Now My’

This Is Lorelei, Nate Amos’s solo project, has released ‘Oh No Now My’, the second song to be taken from forthcoming album The Singer in My Band. Due through Matador Records on 11 September, the single arrives with a stop-motion video directed by Julia Fernandez.

Reaching the finished version meant repeatedly dismantling the song. “‘Oh No Now My’ is a song that ate itself — there were 3 versions of it before it landed here, where it has nothing in common with the original,” Amos said. “I think it’s good but it’s hard to sing. I hope you like it.”

Previous single ‘Billy Came Back’, currently playlisted on BBC 6 Music, also appears on the 11-track record. Amos considers The Singer in My Band his first road album: its ideas took shape during periods of touring, developing in his head while he was away from the guitar and computer he would usually use to write.

That life in transit feeds into stories populated by Billy, Joey, Genevieve, Sarah and Buddy, set against various American scenes and landmarks. When Amos sent the completed album to his father, he received an “on the road beatnik” description that helped bring the project into focus. “It really is like a collection of chaotic experiences that you have while travelling,” Amos said. “They’re also very much little works of fiction with elements of truth to them.”

Amos engineered, produced and performed most of the album in the apartment where much of his music has been made, adding the finishing touches at his parents’ home in St Johnsbury, Vermont. His father, bluegrass musician Bob Amos, plays banjo on the title track; occasional vocals come from Amos’s sister Sarah Amos and his partner Al Nardo.

The Singer in My Band follows the 2024 album Box for Buddy, Box for Star, Amos’s first deliberately written full-length solo record. Its later deluxe edition included covers and collaborations involving MJ Lenderman, Hayley Williams, Jeff Tweedy and Cameron Winter. Amos also records and performs as part of Water From Your Eyes.

A UK and Ireland headline tour with Dark Tea begins at Electric Bristol on 17 November. Further dates in Leeds, Glasgow, Dublin, Manchester, Nottingham and Brighton lead to a final show at London’s Electric Brixton on 26 November; Leeds, Glasgow, Dublin and Manchester are already sold out.
