Uncle Junior Share Debut Single ‘Melt Me’

The Hampshire trio’s first official release arrives as they tour with Man/Woman/Chainsaw, with further dates alongside Tooth to follow.

Hampshire trio Uncle Junior have released their debut single, ‘Melt Me’, while on tour with Man/Woman/Chainsaw. Oli Noble, Eric Rye Lees and Isaac West recorded the song in rural France, taking a more conventional approach to its structure than they had used in their earlier writing together.

The band say the four-chord arrangement, verse-chorus structure and vocal harmonies took them ‘out of our songwriting comfort zones’. Beneath the song’s piano melody and crashing drums, its lyrics consider how memories of lost time can alter the way someone sees themselves. ‘Melt Me’ is the first official release from the trio, though they have already built a live following, with previous support slots alongside Sorry and Alien Chicks.

Noble and West have played together since childhood, including in a hardcore punk band called Scumbag. Rye Lees, who had regularly watched them perform, joined last summer. Uncle Junior’s current run with Man/Woman/Chainsaw includes Brighton, Bristol and London dates before they join Tooth for a UK tour in October and November. They will then play their own headline shows at Brighton’s Hope & Ruin on 21 November and London’s The Social on 23 November.
