Kanye West & Ty Dolla $ign - VULTURES 1 Review

A sad, limp project with weak bones, which is really a point of no return.

Decorum is something I obsess over. Working as a public servant, encountering bad decorum is something that adds fuel to my passion for basic manners and social grace. I’m not oblivious to the things we have conditioned ourselves to doing and by being conditioned, being unaware of the behaviour we partake in that lacks decorum. I find myself a part of this problem, mainly with the act of rolling my eyes. I admit that it’s rude in the face of a response to do it, but in the company of a friend more acceptable. In my own company, though, it’s a different game. Politician with an L take. Roll. Another Joey Barton tweet? Roll. I listen to the new Kanye West x Ty Dolla Sign project and my goodness gracious me. At first glance, ‘ye’ uses his girlfriend and quasi muse on the album cover. I roll my eyes. I press play. I roll my eyes again. I roll my eyes a lot during this album listening process and honestly regret not making a tally, a sort of drinking game out of this action, as I haven’t rolled my eyes on this much of a consistent basis since. They need a rest; I might just have to shut them.

I don’t really know what to say at this point, hence a personal essay on decorum ensuing. The title of the album ‘Vultures 1’ suggests a future of further releases which, I’d rather not subject myself to. This project was a droll listen, Where and if when the production impresses me, the mix surpasses anything from being a re listen. Scratchy or squashed, whatever it is, persists with each track. A sense of the album being rushed is abundantly clear.

The track ‘BACK TO ME’ is comical but in the sense that I’m laughing at it. ‘HOODRAT’ has a gospel influence but at this point, you do not want to hear gospel coming out of this man’s mouth. I’ve tired of the gospel laced with the least gospel lyrics. If this is meant to be shocking, it’s lost its factor. ‘CARNIVAL’ has a nice beat to it, I guess, a comedic outro too but probably not intended. You must laugh at this point.

‘Vultures 1’: Nothing remarkable or to write home about. A pivot out of this will be some hefty turn.

This is something you need not subject yourself to. A sad, limp project with weak bones, which is really a point of no return for the once, genius talent and Ty Dolla $ign.
