Start Listening To: FRANCOBOLLO
We got in touch with (mostly-)Swedish four-piece FRANCOBOLLO for a few questions in the leadup to their upcoming EP, Good Buy, and some friendly life advice.
For those unfamiliar with your music can you tell us who you are, where you’re from and about the music you make?
75% of Francobollo are from the southern parts of Sweden, more specific from Lund & Kävlinge. This 75% include Simon Nilsson, Petter Grevelius, and Sean Bean. The other 25 %, Sam Bailey our beloved bass player is from London. We met when the Franco-circus moved to the UK to expand within the live music scene.
What is your songwriting process like?
It’s all a big mash-up of ideas. Someone will come with an idea, and we’ll finish the idea together. Then whoever writes the lyric sings the song. Makes sense :)
What was the production process like for your upcoming EP Good Buy?
We’ve taken the approach of self-producing everything we do at the moment. Fewer minds, and fewer feelings to consider. Everything has been recorded at our studio in West Ham, London. Some overdubs were done in Petter’s bedroom.
Shout outs to Adam Bonser for the sweet mastering! Keeping it in-house.
We love your new single ‘Modern Life Is Getting Old’. Can you tell us more about the lyrics in this track?
It’s a reflection on the state of the current social-economic structures we’re forced to live by, and how it affects your mood. The lyrics were co-constructed with help from the lyrical genius of our dear friend Feven Eyob Michael.
What are some themes from Good Buy?
The themes from Good Buy lie within the same framework as ‘Modern Life Is Getting Old’. It explores different ways of complaining about being broke all the time, without losing track of how privileged we are at the same time.
What’s it like working with Permanent Creeps Records?
It’s fresher than fresh and, by indicators, it looks like it’ll be a fruitful relationship. They seem very down to earth, yet floating in space just like us.
Do you have any plans to perform live?
YES! Francobollo is a live band, and we are at our best when we’re on stage! We’re having our release for the Good Buy EP at the Victoria in Dalston on July 23rd!
Are there any specific venues/festivals you’re keen to play one day?
Glastonbury would be so cooooooooool.
Who are some of your biggest influences?
There are too many… but we always name our heroes from Sweden: Bob Hund — one of the greatest bands ever played.
What do you hate right now?
Hate.
What do you love right now?
Love .
Is there any new music from 2021 that you’re enjoying?
Loving everything the American rapper-and-producer Quelle Chris is doing at the moment.
What else can we expect from you in 2021? Any further releases planned?
Got a whole fucking disc-load of music that will be coming your way from now on. So yes, lots! Singles, EPs, and LPs on the waayyy, baby.
Do you have any final life lessons or tips for our readers?
