Start Listening To: Ghost Woman
We spoke with Ghost Woman and got to hear more about his upcoming EP Lost Echo’s, working with Michael Rault, and his fondness for George Carlin.
For those unfamiliar with your music, can you tell us who you are, where you’re from, and a little bit about the music that you make?
My name is Evan. I create music as a way to avoid needing to see a therapist.
What is your songwriting process like?
Varies every time. There’s no template.
How did you record your debut EP, Lost Echo’s?
I used a 1/4” tape machine, 2 microphones and a pile of garage sale musical equipment.
What is the origin behind the title of the EP?
It’s a book written by Bob Ward.
What was it like working on these songs in an abandoned farmhouse?
Really depressing. It was a low period in my life. The process was the most enjoyable though. I isolated myself long before it was required. So I’m used to it now. Haha.
Which is your favourite track from the EP and why?
“It might be dress day”
It was fun to record. I was really hyped on the drum sounds I got. That tune was recorded a few years after the other 2. I was doing laundry when I recorded the drum tracks and if you listen carefully, you can hear the dryer buzzer go off in the intro.
What was it like touring as part of Michael Rault’s band? Do you feel that experience has influenced your own songwriting?
I think Michael is one of the best songwriters and musicians I’ve met. He’s a maniac. Learning his songs on guitar and bass really stretched my technique. He’s very specific about what he wants and learning to play what he was hearing and how he was hearing it was really inspiring.
I think those tours and everything surrounding them had an impact on my writing at the time.
What do you hate right now?
I try not to hate too much.
What do you love right now?
I try not to love too much.
Do you have any plans to perform live in 2021?
Of course. As often as I can.
Is there any new music from 2021 that you’re enjoying?
Not really. New music lacks so much. I’m still trying to figure out what it is.
What else can we expect from you in 2021? Any more releases planned?
I have tons of music im stoked to release.
Do you have any final life lessons or tips for our readers?
Listen to George Carlin.
