The latest song by Berlin-based musician Albertine Sarges, ‘Hold On,’ is a rallying cry for individuals struggling with addiction, "this song is for me, to continue the fight, and it is for everyone else, who is addicted. Everyone who is fighting an addiction is a hero to me, and I wish this to be heard loud and wide!”
She continues: “As we are living in a world that accelerates into unbearable contradictions and doom, many of us look for ways to stop the pain. For many its drugs, for others, its food, sex, work, you name it. I have been addicted to nicotine since I was 13. Nicotine is a slow killer and is still quite acceptable in Germany.” The video is a remarkable satire and sees Albertine embodying the marketing lie of the Marlboro man. “In my story he is fighting his addiction, caught in a human sized cigarette package.”
‘Hold On’ is from Albertine’s forthcoming EP Family Of Things, due out on 25th November 2022 via Moshi Moshi. The press release for the EP states: “In the end, Family of Things is all about the mundane explored, the distant brought closer, and the universal contained in the particular. It’s a project that yearns simply for genuine emotion, wherever that may be found.”
Albertine is playing tonight at the Electric Brixton and tomorrow at London’s Servant Jazz Quarter before continuing to Cardiff and Brighton returning to London on the 26th and rounding off the tour in Berlin on the 29th. Full details are below, and tickets are available here.
