Gig Review: The Lazy Eyes @ Omeara

The Sydney quartet share their kaleidoscopic new album live in London. Sold out show at London Bridge’s charming Omeara. The 320 person crowd welcomed the four-piece with open hearts. Despite being a long way from home,  Harvey Geraghty (vocals, guitar, keyboard), Itay Shachar (vocals, guitar), Leon Karagic (bass) and Noah Martin (drums) were all in their element, shredding the night away.

Although this was the penultimate show from their UK tour, the Sydney group showed no sign of lacking in stamina. Their well planned setlist was the perfect fuse of jams from their latest album Songbook, as well as earlier E.P. releases. It was an iridescent show, live renditions of ‘The Seaside’, ‘Imaginary Girl’ and ‘Where’s My Brain’ stood out and who could forget crowd pleaser - ‘Cheesy Love Song.’

By the end of the set, the pumped up London audience were unashamedly thirsty for more, demanding multiples of "more songs". The Lazy Eyes delivered two encore tracks making the perfect crescendo to the night’s close.

It’s easy to compare psychedelic bands from Australia, considering they are fast approaching to be one of the continent’s biggest exports. The Lazy Eyes are gladly received into the mix. Maybe that’s because Kevin Parker moves further away from Innerspeaker with each new album Tame Impala release and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard are, well, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. In other words, yes, The Lazy Eyes sound similar to the psychedelic royalty from the southern hemispher, but there’s nothing wrong with filling the foundations set by their predecessors - especially if they are great ones.

We’re excited for more Lazy Eyes tours and albums. For the band to keep developing their own identity and to grow their musical catalogue.
