Joseph Futak Releases New Single ‘Bank Robber’

Joseph Futak reignites songwriting persona with new double single 'Bank Robber Song' and 'This Morning'.

Joseph Futak has recently returned to songwriting with the release of two tracks: ‘Bank Robber Song’ and ‘This Morning’. A combination of slowcore and dark americana, these tracks evoke a sense of intimacy and reflect Futak's exploration of imposter syndrome. 'Bank Robber Song' is a witty and soft tune, while 'This Morning' is a sultry and romantic love song. Both tracks were written while Futak was "delirious with Covid".

Recorded live-to-tape with minimal takes, musicians huddling around a Space Heater, this latest offering marks a refreshing change of pace for Futak. Ahead of the release, his first since 2020’s ‘Pigeon Songs’, he explains: “Writing these songs marked a refreshing change in my approach to my own music - stripping back pretence and focussing on the minute details of what makes us tick, using storytelling and humour to explore this. It also served as a reminder of the joy in making music with other people for the first time since the pandemic, and the vibrancy that comes from leaving things up to chance and embracing the unknown.

Released on My Life is Big (Tapir!, Hobbyhorse), Futak will be performing at The George Tavern in Shadwell in celebration of the release, on the 20th January
