Kim Gordon Announces Third Solo Album Play Me Out March 13
Kim Gordon will release her third solo album Play Me on March 13 via Matador Records, featuring the lead single Not Today and a video directed by Kate and Laura Mulleavy.
Kim Gordon is set to release her third solo album Play Me on 13 March through Matador Records. The new record follows 2024's The Collective, which earned two Grammy nominations.
The lead single, Not Today, is out now with an accompanying short film directed by Rodarte founders Kate and Laura Mulleavy alongside director of photography Christopher Blauvelt. Gordon wears a hand-dyed silk tulle dress from an early Rodarte collection, custom-made for her by the Mulleavys.
Produced by Justin Raisen, who has worked with Charli XCX and Yves Tumor, Play Me expands Gordon’s sound with more melodic beats and krautrock-inspired motorik rhythms. Gordon describes the album as more focused and confident, aiming for shorter, beat-oriented songs.
The album tackles themes such as the impact of the billionaire class, technocratic fascism, AI, and the absurdities of modern life, often with dark humour. Tracks like "No Hands" and "Square Jaw" address societal recklessness and toxic masculinity, while "ByeBye25!" reworks a previous song with lyrics drawn from banned words lists under the Trump administration.
Gordon’s distinctive voice and abstract lyricism continue to explore contemporary realities, making Play Me a timely work of opposition art.
Pre-orders for Play Me are available now. The album’s tracklist includes 12 songs, with contributions from Dave Grohl on drums for "Busy Bee".
