Lava La Rue Shares Frenetic New Speedy Wunderground Single ‘Prince Of Bologna’

The London artist teams up with Dan Carey for a frantic new addition to Speedy Wunderground's celebrated singles series.

Lava La Rue has returned with new single ‘Prince Of Bologna’, released as the latest instalment in Speedy Wunderground's long-running singles series. Arriving alongside a self-directed video, the track will also receive a limited 7" vinyl release on 30th July, complete with an exclusive dub version from Speedy Wunderground founder and producer Dan Carey titled ‘Prince Of Dublogna’.

Written and co-produced with Husky Loops' Tommaso Medica, ‘Prince Of Bologna’ packs motorik rhythms, overdriven guitars and vintage organ into a frantic two-minute burst. Lyrically, the song pieces together snippets of overheard conversations, with lines inspired by chance encounters and late-night exchanges.

Speaking about the track, Lava La Rue described it as "a speed date of conversations I've overheard", explaining that it was inspired by fragments of opinions heard in the smoking area outside London's George Tavern. They also revealed the song first took shape during a late-night jam session on a battered 1970s Italian organ and drum machine discovered by Medica before being developed further with Dan Carey and recorded live to tape with the full band.

The accompanying video, directed and edited by Lava La Rue, follows a high-speed parkour chase through Brighton after a group of friends make off with cans of beer from a supermarket. Created with the help of local parkour athletes Ziggi and Mitchy, the video embraces a spontaneous, DIY spirit, with Lava describing it as their most ambitious visual project to date.

Dan Carey first discovered Lava La Rue while watching them perform at Latitude Festival in 2021. Reflecting on finally collaborating through the Speedy Wunderground series, Carey said he immediately wanted to make a record with the artist after seeing the performance, adding that five years later he was delighted to make that ambition a reality.

The release follows Lava La Rue's EP Do You Know Everything (D.Y.K.E), which arrived earlier this year via BMG and continued to showcase their boundary-pushing approach to alternative music. Since first making music as a child, the West London artist has accumulated more than 500 million streams, earned repeated support from BBC Radio 1 and BBC 6 Music, and performed at festivals including Glastonbury and Coachella.

‘Prince Of Bologna’ is available to stream now, while the limited 7" vinyl edition arrives on 30th July via Speedy Wunderground.
