Pink Eye Club Releases New Single ‘Small Talk'
Pink Eye Club ditches the ‘small talk’ and embraces the dance floor with memorable club-fuelled new single.
Haydn Davies, Streatham-based gardener and “one man disco machine” under the moniker Pink Eye Club is a true local hero ; anyone who has been immersed in the Windmill scene will be aware of what he is capable of. His DIY dance-op fuses house beats with unfiltered lyrics that echo private inner monologues – think Fat White Family matched with Decius goes to Ibiza; for a riot of a good time that has earned him slots with almost every band to break out of the Windmill scene: Little Grandad, DEADLETTER, Honeyglaze, Folly Group – if you’re on a slot with Pink Eye Club, you’re probably destined for big things. His music matches the hype; club-ready, anthem-inducing - if cult-favourite had a definition in the dictionary it would probably be him, as iconic to the Windmill scene as Speedy Wunderground or post-punk revivalism, if not more so.
That extends to his role as a promoter where he’s booked early gigs for PVA and Lambrini Girls, in addition to the likes of Fat Dog and The Orchestra (For Now)’s Joe Jazz for their first ever gigs. The music of ‘Small Talk’ itself reflects that sense of honesty and self-discovery and self-worth – he just wants to dance, have a good time – tapping into that everyday fear of rehearsed, almost unauthentic conversations like “hi, how was your day today” and “the weather out there looks so nice” followed by “how’s the dog and how’s your wife?” that don’t really mean anything. It’s far more fun just to dance and groove - and just come there with friends and have a good time.
That’s reflected in Davies’ own words: “Small Talk is the first song from my upcoming, autobiographical album “Emotional Dance Music”. It represents a time in my life when I used to connect with people on the dance floor rather than in conversation. These days things are different and my confidence has grown, but it’s a reflection of a time when I couldn’t just simply go up to a group of people and start a random conversation. I feel as though I’m not alone in this but music & dancing helps even the most introverted of people create genuine human connections.”
