Pulp Announce First New Album in Nearly 24 Years

More will be released on 6 June 2025 via Rough Trade Records.

Pulp have announced their first new album in almost a quarter of a century. More will be released on 6 June 2025 via Rough Trade Records, marking the Sheffield band's first studio album since 2001’s We Love Life.

The record’s lead single, “Spike Island,” is out now, accompanied by a video crafted using AI animations directed by Jarvis Cocker. The track, co-written with Jason Buckle (Relaxed Muscle), is a swelling, synth- and slide guitar-led anthem produced by James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, Fontaines D.C.). The lyrics draw inspiration from the Stone Roses’ iconic 1990 gig at Spike Island, which Buckle attended—despite Cocker having never been there himself.

In a statement about the video, Cocker described experimenting with AI to bring vintage photographs—originally shot for Different Class—to life. “The experience had marked me,” he said. “I don’t know whether I’ve recovered yet.” He ultimately calls the original 1995 photography “Human Intelligence at its best,” adding, “My final thought? H.I. Forever!”

Recorded and mixed at Orbb Studio in Walthamstow in just three weeks, More features string arrangements by bassist Candida Doyle’s brother Richard Jones, performances from the Elysian Collective, and contributions from Richard Hawley, Jason Buckle, and the Eno family. It’s dedicated to the band’s late bassist Steve Mackey, who passed away in 2023.

"This is the best that we can do,” Cocker said. “Thanks for listening.”

Limited vinyl editions will include a 45rpm double LP and four handpicked colour variants curated by Cocker: the “Theresa” green LP (wide retail), “Blue Sky Thinking” marble LP (independent shops), “South Yorkshire Sunset” (Sheffield only), and “Isha Kriya” ink spot LP (exclusive to Pulp and Rough Trade online stores).
