Soft Top Capture Suspended Emotion On New Single ‘Waiting Game’
Brighton band preview debut album Gathering Dust with a deeply personal track shaped by uncertainty, memory and the quiet weight of waiting.
Brighton outfit Soft Top have shared their latest single ‘Waiting Game’, the newest preview of their forthcoming debut album Gathering Dust, set for release on 19 June via Crafting Room Recordings.
‘Waiting Game’ draws from a deeply personal place. Frontman Miles Goodall wrote the song while his mother was undergoing treatment for pancreatic cancer, reflecting on the emotional strain of uncertainty and the long stretches of waiting for updates. That sense of suspended time feeds directly into the wider concept behind Gathering Dust.
The album centres on a narrative of a character left in a coma after an accident, with each track exploring different emotional and psychological states within that liminal condition. ‘Waiting Game’ captures this in particular detail, focusing on the uneasy stillness of existing between outcomes, where distraction becomes a coping mechanism for something far heavier beneath the surface.
Musically, the band lean into a rich, layered sound that moves between indie rock, chamber pop and soft rock. Across the record, these textures allow heavier subject matter to feel expansive rather than overwhelming, with arrangements that prioritise atmosphere and restraint over melodrama.
‘Waiting Game’ is out now, with Gathering Dust due on the 19th of June.
