The Return Of Cosmic Crooner

Cosmic Crooner returns with his meditative new single ‘Tema di Filippo’ - a cinematic spy-like song with a retro grandeur.

Having released a string of successful singles over the last two years, the mysterious European lounge singer Cosmic Crooner is back with another addictive slice of vintage psychedelia. With its sweeping strings and smooth melody ‘Tema di Filippo’ sounds like it’s lifted straight from a 60’s espionage film – complete with ultra-stylish black and white video inspired by the Italian film maker Michelangelo Antonioni. Directed by Cosmic Crooner himself along with Lin Bartraij, it’s a nostalgic nod to film-making of yesteryear and one that wouldn’t look out of place as a James Bond intro.

“The arrangements of this song were inspired by Italian movies and their scores” says Cosmic Crooner. “We wanted to approach this video differently than my previous videos by using only one location and we wanted to create a loop with a reward at the end. One of my most transcendental videos so far. With lyrics I find it very important that everyone can interpret the song’s meaning in their own way. This was also an inspiration for the video. I like how multi interpretable the video has become.”

Inspired by the likes of Lou Reed, Serge Gainsbourg, Weyes Blood, David Bowie and The Beach Boys, Cosmic Crooner’s witty musicalities offer all the hallmarks of a classic songwriter in the making. Since releasing his debut single ‘Deep Down in Jazz’ in 2021, Cosmic Crooner has released a further four singles, Popsicle Place, Bolero, Reflexopolis, and most recently Girlfriend, all of which have helped gain him critical acclaim and build a cult fan following across Europe.  Heavily inspired by the 60s, 70s and Italian classics, silver-tongued singer-songwriter Cosmic Crooner is no stranger to offering up a varying palette of sonic natures. Through his self-proclaimed ‘Doowop Space Pop’ there’s guarantee his orchestral tone poems and rock ‘n’ roll vigour will have you swooning.

With equal effort spent on his visuals, every release comes with a meticulously made and visually dazzling video – displaying a depth of detail and style that makes them feel like short-films. His video for ‘Reflexopolis’ even got nominated for best music video at The Dutch Film Festival. “My love of music and film inspire each other equally. I think the music video can play an important part in portraying the imagery I was picturing while writing the song. Musically I tend to take a lot of inspiration from movies and their scores. Good films and music are just something magical to me. I dive into them and forget about myself for a while. The dreamy aspect about that really intrigues me.”
