Alien Chicks Release New EP Toys Taken At Birth

The London trio’s latest release tackles inequality and political spectacle, closing with a Missy Elliott cover.

Alien Chicks have released their new EP, Toys Taken At Birth, through Alcopop! Records today. Featuring recent singles ‘5/4’ and ‘Madmen’, alongside ‘Now I’m Big’, the release explores inequality, the exercise of power and the frustration of living under systems that appear increasingly indifferent to the people within them. The London trio mark its arrival with a show at Rough Trade East tonight, followed by further record shop appearances in Liverpool, Kingston and Bristol.

For the band, the EP’s starting point was the widening distance between those who hold power and those who experience its consequences. ‘“Toys Taken at Birth” is about the injustice that leaves some people with everything and some with nothing,’ they explain. Across the release, they consider how political messaging enters everyday life through flags, shifting headlines and repeated slogans, using satire and increasingly exaggerated depictions of authority to express that pressure. They describe songs that offer little resolution, with repetition becoming a reflection of the structures they are responding to. The EP then closes with a Missy Elliott cover, a turn the band explain simply: ‘Cos you might as well get your freak on.’

Comprising Josef Lindsay on guitar and vocals, Stefan Parker-Steele on bass and backing vocals, and Martha Daniels on drums and backing vocals, Alien Chicks have previously supported English Teacher, Lambrini Girls, Sprints, Maruja and Big Special. Earlier this year, they also travelled to the US for their first appearances at SXSW. Following the UK in-store dates, they head to mainland Europe for shows in France, the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark, before appearances at Brighton’s Mutations Festival and Iceland Airwaves in Reykjavík.

Further UK and European dates follow in early 2027, including Rockaway Beach in January and a London headline show at The Lexington on 26 February. Toys Taken At Birth is available now on digital platforms.
