Desertfest London announces first headliners Melvins for 2027

Desertfest returns to Camden for May 2027, featuring a UK exclusive show for Monolord, in addition to Mantar, Inter Arma and Dopethrone.

Desertfest London is going big for 2027. After last year’s headliners led to a packed edition featuring bands like Green Lung, The Sword, Clutch and Pigs x7, the Melvins are one of heavy music’s pioneers and enlisting them back for the legacy slot allows Desertfest to really embrace one of the best in the business. Often imitated, never duplicated, the Melvins is a real treat for fans and really establishes them as their rightful place as headliners.

Regular Desertfest attendees will remember Monolord from their 2024 Ballroom set; and they’re back for a UK exclusive with new album ‘Neverending’ in tow. The Swedish band’s heavy doom is condensed here but no less explosive, and their shortest album to date. It packs a powerful punch as per always; their riffs unparalleled in mastery.

Mantar offer something filthy and ferocious; heavy death-punk grooves next to the Virginian doom disciples Inter Arma, who have been around for 20 years and then some. Sharing birthday celebrations are Desert Storm, also 20 years old, and homegrown. From further afield – “Canadian Slutch” powertrio Dopethrone will bring a hefty dosage of filth to the streets of Camden. There’s also Year of the Cobra, making the pilgrimage to Camden in sonic style for the first time in eight years.

The venues at Desertfest have historically included The Dev, the Roundhouse, Electric Ballroom, the Black Heart and the Underworld and having attended for two years in a row; Desertfest almost certainly has me back for next year as a dead certainty following this recent announcement. It showed at once that it can cater to fans of both the old guard of Clutch whilst give new voices to the best up-and-coming big bands in the scene like Green Lung and Pigs x7; and as always, has done the same again.
