Oxygen Share Debut Single ‘Without A Trace’

Dulcet, honeyed tones burst into the restless and powerful in Oxygen’s alt revival.

In a moment of sink or swim for the band, Oxygen let slip raw power with their debut single ‘Without A Trace’. Already at a crossroads with the injection of new talent within their emerging band, it’s natural for anyone to be fighting to find their place amongst the ranks. Oxygen appear to have come out of that new upheaval that all newly founded bands struggle with within their early days of evolution and shuffling, and are the better for it.

Their debut displays this unsurety with a deep and frustrated sound that finds its place comfortably atop a blade. Beginning rhythmically, masking sharp bursts of vibration, this track gets its point across by pairing classic reverb with twangs that melt through the stronger bends permeating throughout. Prominent yet simple in maintenance of its effectiveness, it sounds out the boiling point for the band, releasing torrent beyond torrent of genuine emotion. The whamming of the drums within the track is reminiscent of the alt-rock bands of the early 00s. This comparison is not to downplay their work as derivative of other bands, but to tell you whose torch they carry into this new generation of music.

Jacob Owens of the band said that ‘It was a make-or-break moment which ultimately went the other way. It really felt like it unlocked something for us.’

As some know but not all are ready to admit, it takes more than just pressure and overwhelming odds to produce a sound that people want to hear. It takes instinct that a band can work hand-in-hand and not against one another and, above all, it takes exceptional talent. Suffice to say that Oxygen have found that in each other, even if it did take intensity at a crossroads to discover.

‘Without A Trace’ is out now, so if you like a band with a story, introduce some Oxygen into your life.
