Post rockers Long Distance Runner share new single ‘New Song’ that puts them as the heir apparent to Mogwai and Explosions in the Sky

Capturing the essence of bands like Deathcrash, Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky and Windmill favourites Wing!, Long Distance Runner have an instant eye-ball by the fact that they sound like they should be on the billing at Arctangent festival (that has seen both Mogwai and Explosions headline before) - but could also seamlessly fit in at venues like the George Tavern or the Brixton Windmill. The London newcomers have this air of complexity to their krautrock that most bands double their age would balk at; and they’ve made such a statement of intent following their debut single ‘Zero’ it’s hard not to get invested - on BBC 6Music (Emily Pilbeam), Radio X (‘John Kennedy’s X-Posure Big One’), So Young, The Line of Best Fit, Rough Trade, Hard of Hearing, Louder Than War, and more.

The loud, rattling drum patterns and Smiths-esque guitars fit a hole that I didn’t know I needed. Producer Tom Kellet of Spanish Horses, Moreish Idols and Pearl2 lends a guiding hand here, Speaking more about the track, guitarist Ned Prevezer says: ‘'New Song’ came out of us wanting to do something short and impactful. We wanted it to hit hard and disappear from view as quickly as it enters. In trying to make something a little more dense and structured we veered towards that sort of melodic interlocking guitar sound, like The Smiths and Television. It's more straightforward, but it still takes you on a journey in that 3 minutes.”

The band have already recorded an intimate live experience from a Next Door Records session here and look set to headline the George Tavern on Thursday before going out to support 90s alt-rock heroes Swervedriver across the UK next month.
