Radio Free Alice Release New Single ‘Big ideas’ Feat. Rachel Brown
Rising guitar band Radio Free Alice release ‘Big Ideas’ with Water From Your Eyes’ Rachel Brown ahead of a string of headline tour dates
It is has been something of a breakout year for Radio Free Alice. They have played everywhere from Rock Werchter at an appropriately chaotic Nest Discovery stage set to under an active train station in Bermondsey, London for a guerrilla free show over the summer that saw over 500 fans turn up with only 6 hours notice; and now they return with a new song to kick off an autumn tour that also acts as an epilogue to their journey of an extensive festival slate - and a transition that has them switch into studio mode for the album and a headline tour proper.
The perfect match for them is Water From Your Eyes’ Rachel Brown - for a song that’s appropriately full of ‘Big Ideas’. Indeed; ‘Big Ideas’ led to this song’s birth - recorded at a live debut last week at the bands’ free DIY pop show in Chinatown, LA - where Owen Schatz (Turnstile, Amine, Adele director) shot the official video, which also lands today. It is as one would expect, appropriately stylish.
“From early on we felt that a second vocal would work well with the song, a kind of call and response,” frontman Noah Learmonth says of the collaboration. “We’ve loved Water From Your Eyes for years, and had gone to their show when they came to Melbourne. We felt like Rachel would be perfect, they have such an interesting, distinctive voice.”
Today’s single and the album at large sees the band continue their work across continents with producer Peter Katis [Interpol, Death Cab for Cutie, The National]. Ewan Pearson [Depeche Mode, M83] and Finn Billingham [HighSchool, Sam Akpro] also contribute production across ‘What’s In Between’.
With a debut album on the way, ‘What’s In Between’ - this makes the perfect transition for Radio Free Alice into an established outfit that has gained steady support from a loyal fanbase. Debut album What’s In Between more than justifies the insatiable hype, delivering well-observed, combustive earworms to an increasingly fervent, increasingly global fanbase.
Earlier in the summer, Radio Free Alice made their debut release on Atlantic Records with the single ‘Lunch Money’. That weekend, they went on to make their debut Gov Ball performance in NYC along with a sold-out after-show at Baby’s All Right.
Album announce single ‘Crying With You’ followed ‘Kick in the Shins’, a frenzied stumble through whatever life deals the band on any given day, driven by Learmonth’s quick-witted storytelling and punctuated by the sharp uppercut of Michael Phillips’ saxophone.
