The London quartet’s first record arrives ahead of headline shows in New York and Los Angeles next month.
RIP Magic have released their debut album, 1,2,3, today (30 October) via section1. Made without guitars, the 12-track record centres on live drums and bass, with synths, samples and vocals drawing on dub, dance music, hip-hop and pop. The London four-piece, comprising Marco Pini, Felix Bayley-Higgins, Beth Boswell-Knight and Pedro Takahashi, previewed the album with an unconventional listening party: a late-night gathering with South London car-meet crew Southeast Tunerz, where around 20 cars played the record through their sound systems.
The album includes recent single ‘Stadium Drive’, alongside ‘Screwdark’ and the James Murphy-produced ‘5words’, all three of which have been A-listed at BBC Radio 6 Music. Its release follows support slots with Tame Impala at UK and European arenas, as well as US dates opening for LCD Soundsystem. RIP Magic will return to the States next month for their first headline shows there, playing New York’s Nightclub 101 on 12 November and Oblivion in Los Angeles on 18 November, before appearing at Corona Capital in Mexico City on 20 November. Before that, they play The Mount Within as part of Bristol’s Simple Things on 7 November. Tickets are on sale now.
