Saint Clair release New Single ‘Dreams’
Their first release since July’s debut EP ‘Something to Be Said’, rising indie rockers Saint Clair establish a name for themselves with their Autumn headline tour sold out
It has been an eventful summer for rising London four piece Saint Clair, who have just wrapped a lengthy festival run that included slots at the likes of Tramlines, Truck, Wilderness, The 100 Club, and the Great Escape - where the band filled The Green Door Store in a weekend of extreme competition. It’s a band that have been caught in the moment of explosion, of existing in the summer of their lives - that just grows and grows.
“As we wrote Something To Be Said, we landed on a handful of songs that live in the same world,” the band say. “Toby’s unfiltered emotions are on full display with the music helping to heighten them; simple and human yet unique and relatable.”
Their announcement single ‘Gretchen’ captured a relationship buckling under the weight of adult responsibilities and both people’s lives being caught in the crossfire. 'Frontman Toby here was allowed to step into a more autonomous role on ‘Warm’ whilst ‘Too Young to Notice’ shows the narrator looking back on their growth with hindsight of what comes before, safe in the knowledge that everything happens at the right time.
The EPs eponymous single paired sludgy, slow-burn bass lines with guitar lifts to traverse a struggle between love and conflict, arriving with a live performance by Lucas Murray-Reynolds.
“‘Dreams’ somehow feels more relevant to Saint Clair now than ever,” Toby says of the single. “It is a reflection on that period of time and the person who I was; a song that takes me back to the bedroom I grew up in. Music became my outlet, and ‘Dreams’ is our homage to that.”
The band met in student halls in Wembley and were elevated by studio engineer Andrea Cozzaglio of Young Fathers, Mary in the Junkyard and A$AP Rocky fame, who demo’d three of the bands’ early cuts in a Tottenham studio. Drummer Beth, who joined in 2024, added an extra mix of nu-metal and hip-hop to the band that has grown on Toby & Lawernce’s songwriting.
“There is always a temptation to do too much as an instrumentalist, we’ve gone past that in favour of trying to serve the song itself,” Toby says of Saint Clair’s emerging philosophy. “We want to be a songs band, not a musicians’ band… sometimes you’ve gotta ask yourself what would Ringo do?”
