Slow Pulp Share ‘Spill’ Ahead of New Album Melodie
Slow Pulp have shared ‘Spill’, the final single from their forthcoming album Melodie, with an accompanying video. The record is due on 18 September via ANTI-, before a London in-store appearance and the band’s 2027 UK and European tour.
‘Spill’ first took shape while the Chicago-based group were making their 2023 album Yard, but did not find its place until they began working with producer Elliot Kozel. “Once we started working on Melodie it felt like a song that could live within the world we were building, so it made it onto the album,” Emily Massey says.
That long gestation fits a song caught in a cycle of hesitation. Massey says ‘Spill’ grew from repeated casual relationships where expressing genuine love felt out of reach. “It’s that delicate dance where you wait for someone else to take the leap,” she explains. “Too afraid to say it too soon but also too afraid to say it too late, waiting to see how it will all play out.”
Following earlier singles ‘Not for Nothing’ and ‘Better Man’, the track offers another preview of an album made through a more shared writing process. Massey divided lyric-writing duties with Stoehr, who wrote five of its songs, while the pair also contributed to production under Kozel’s lead. His previous credits include Rosalía, Yves Tumor, Björk, SZA and Eartheater.
Kozel’s work was already familiar to Stoehr, Mathews and Leeds, who grew up listening to his former band Sleeping in the Aviary. Massey describes the finished album as carrying a cyclical quality, with its songs returning to earlier experiences and transforming them. For Leeds, songwriting can provide a way to understand an emotion as well as preserve it.
Before the wider tour, Slow Pulp will perform and hold a signing at Rough Trade East in London on 24 September. Their 2027 dates begin at Berlin’s Columbia Theatre on 21 January, followed by shows in Cologne, Brussels, Amsterdam and Paris. The UK and Ireland leg starts at Glasgow’s Queen Margaret Union on 29 January and visits Dublin, Manchester, Bristol and Leeds before finishing at London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town on 6 February.
