Twisted teens release ‘when we first met’ ahead of upcoming album ‘the holy cross tigers’

The New Orleans-based bluesy garage-rock duo release ‘When We First Met’ ahead of their third record and November 6th Sub Pop debut, ‘The Holy Cross Tigers’.

When drumming up an analogy to detail the single, you’d be conflicted between ‘the same sensory experience as downing honey tea on a raw, flu-ravaged throat’ or ‘walking a harmless yet persistent bulldog’: but then, you’ll realize that both mean to say that ‘When We First Met’, at once, makes you feel slightly physically vulnerable but never yanked far beyond what you can handle - and, for handling it, rewarded with a slight pleasure that doesn’t exist without said yanking. In the nearly two-minute track, backwards-leaning vocals brace against pulverizing cores of hopped-up guitar; meanwhile, ideally-paced drums sound as though they’re playing a highly competitive game of whack-a-mole with lit firecrackers. If ‘When We First Met’ is representative of the rest, ‘The Holy Cross Tigers’ might present Twisted Teens at their most unavoidable and delightfully contradictory - legloose, shoulder-bunching, and far too much fun.
