Montreal’s Burgundy Releases ‘Sunbleach’ Ahead of EP Announcement

The rising alt-pop Chilean-Candian artist releases bronzy new single ‘Sunbleach’ ahead of his second EP, which is set to be released fall of this year.

Montreal-based solo singer-songwriter Burgundy releases ‘Sunbleach’ on Nodiploma Records, giving his rapidly-rising group of followers a teaser for an upcoming EP.

“I wrote this song after meeting someone new following a very intense and deep relationship. The song is about being divided between holding on to what once was and letting new feelings flourish, as well as the curiosity of what could happen with these new feelings”, he shared in a statement on the track.

Above all, ‘Sunbleach’ shows Burgundy comfortable in his ability to make unconventional production or structural styling feel painless. The slip-sliding vocal tracks align in golden harmony at moments, and at others tussle about in varying electro-altered pitch and velocity, not unlike a Rubik’s Cube learning to solve itself - still, the performance feels melodically purposeful and self-aware throughout. As tension builds and unwinds contingent to the salient point of the mutating vocal, a cocktail of balmy surround sound, birdsong guitar lines, and free-fall bass slip-slide in the backing tracks; apart from helping the track maintain a sense of rhapsody, the skillfully mixed instrumentals guide your ear toward the best feature at the moment - be it themselves or the lyrics.
