Folk Bitch Trio sign to Jagjaguwar, share new single “The Actor”
Melbourne trio to play UK dates this May, including The Great Escape and Green Man Festival.
Melbourne/Naarm-based group Folk Bitch Trio have announced their signing to Jagjaguwar, marking the occasion with the release of a brand new single and video, “The Actor.” The track is the first taste of their forthcoming debut album and arrives ahead of a string of UK and international tour dates this spring and summer.
The group made up of Gracie Sinclair, Jeanie Pilkington and Heide Peverelle are known for their rich three-part harmonies, emotionally charged songwriting, and a fearless, off-kilter approach to folk traditions. With sharp humour, vulnerability, and a refusal to shy away from messiness, their music draws on deep connection and shared experience.
New single “The Actor” is no exception. It’s a confessional and at times bitingly funny song about “falling hard and fast and breaking down quick too,” ending with the demise of a relationship at a solo theatre performance. Delivered in their signature entwined vocals and co-directed by the band with Bridgette Winten, the accompanying video builds on the track’s mix of intimacy and wry detachment.
Formed five years ago, the trio have become fixtures of Australia’s independent scene and earned international attention with last year’s breakout single “God’s a Different Sword”. They’ve since toured with Alex G, Julia Jacklin, Courtney Barnett and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, and made appearances at SXSW.
Folk Bitch Trio will return to the UK this May for a run of live shows including The Great Escape, a headline in London, and Green Man Festival later in the summer. Full dates below.
