Drum Tower Release Debut Single ‘Junkyard’
London’s experimental rock outfit Drum Tower release debut single ‘Junkyard’, perfect for fans of Crack Cloud, Robber Robber, Battles and Deerhoof, alongside a slew of tour dates
Producing bleak music for a hyperreal age, Drum Tower cook up a stew of post and math rock with a blend of psychedelia and post punk for good measure, meaning that listening to a new Drum Tower song is never quite what you expect, injecting a refreshing air of unpredictability into every track that takes you on a dystopian adventure that is as weirdly catchy as just plain weird.
Produced by Louis Milburn, the genius behind Folly Group and Glasshouse Red Spider Mite, and engineered by Alexander Sokolow (Man/Woman/Chainsaw, Tapir!, Tugboat Captain), Drum Tower’s first single sounds like Crack Cloud have entered “a mutant disco taking place at a shimmering scrapheap”.
It sounds appropriate, maximising the guitar hooks and rhythms with multiple vocalists to engineer a whole new world caught in its labyrinthine structures. The record statement is as compelling and as immersive as they come - Trombonist and vocalist Rachel Fonseca Burtt says: “Junkyard is a ballad that unfolds as a dual narrative dealing with the harsh leftovers of romantic discardment. Moving from the initial sting of aimless, exhausted wandering to finding a surreal comfort in the city’s dump.”
