Friko Announce Expanded Edition of ‘Something Worth Waiting For’

The Chicago indie-rock outfit have also shared new single ‘Necessary’, one of four previously unreleased tracks joining their second album.

Arriving digitally via ATO Records on September 11th, the new version of Something Worth Waiting For adds six tracks to the original nine-song record. Four previously unreleased songs, ‘Necessary’, ‘Dirty Diamond’, ‘Look At Ya Now’ and ‘Rock Song’, will feature alongside demo versions of ‘Seven Degrees’ and the album’s title track. The additional material was recorded with producer John Congleton during the sessions for the original album.

‘Necessary’ offers the first glimpse at the newly added material, capturing the heavier and more immediate side of the Chicago four-piece’s sound. The track also has a history on stage, having been the first new song Friko performed live following the expansion of the band’s lineup to include guitarist Korgan Robb and bassist David Fuller alongside vocalist and guitarist Niko Kapetan and drummer Bailey Minzenberger.

“This was actually the first new song we ever played live as a four piece,” Kapetan explains. “An ode to imposter syndrome and trying to convince yourself out of that feeling.”

Something Worth Waiting For originally arrived earlier this year as the follow-up to Friko’s 2024 debut, Where we’ve been, Where we go from here. Produced by Congleton in Los Angeles, the record saw the band continue to expand beyond the indie-rock foundations of their debut, moving through noise-rock, orchestral arrangements and more experimental territory across its nine tracks.

The announcement comes during an extensive period of touring for Friko. Following dates across Asia, including an appearance at Fuji Rock and three sold-out shows in China, the band have spent the summer moving through the European festival circuit. Their schedule has included appearances at Haldern Pop, Ypsigrock, Paredes de Coura, La Route du Rock, Green Man and Into The Great Wide Open.

Friko are also set to support Nation of Language across the UK before returning to North America for an extensive headline tour later this year.
