Humane Share New Single ‘Penny Let Go’
Rising new East London five piece Humane share their new single ‘Penny Let Go’ ahead of tours with Radio Free Alice and Sex Mask this month
Blisteringly bold ‘Penny Let Go’ is a brilliantly dark post-punk song that has an air of atmosphere to it from the second you hit play. Driven this way by design, as an earworm that pulls you in and keeps you there, its vision is simple:
“The hook to this song came to me whilst driving to the studio, and we had written most of the song within the hour. It was quick so I wasn’t thinking about what it meant, but I enjoy the hook’s ambiguity,” frontman Max Henley says. “It could be about money or a girl, but in my head it’s more of a statement about ego death and a surrender, an instruction to let go when you’re not sure what it is you’re holding onto."
Like ‘Penny Let Go’, Humane are a band that have just grown and grown. Originally a solo piece that have since expanded into a quintet that has led to the release of two self-released EPs; there is plenty of music to mine from that has led to a tour as prolific as Radio Free Alice’s. They have already been played on Radio 1 and Radio 6, and have taken the stage at Green Man and SWSX Sydney. This is a reunion show with Radio Free Alice - joining them for the European leg following UK dates with Sex Mask.
Based on the quality of the records released so far it won’t be long before Humane reach headline status of venues that they are playing in with Sex Mask and Radio Free Alice themselves - a talented outfit that really has a way of keeping you under their spell.
