Honest Work Release ‘Energy’ and New EP ‘Another Broken Glass’

Comparable to Queens of the Stone Age, Gurriers and Wunderhorse, Honest Work deliver more ‘honest work’ recorded directly to a vintage 70s tape machine at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios

Existing in that unique blend between Jeff Buckley and Wunderhorse, with elements of Smashing Pumpkins, Honest Work have great energy to their sets that when performed live, are a band impossible to tear your eyes away from. Their set at East London Block Party earlier this year at the Old Blue Last was one of the highlights of the festival, and in the middle of an autumn headline tour that continues next month, they’re rapidly making a name for themselves. “It’s not much, but it’s honest work,” was the slogan that became a rallying cry for the band’s ethos – a different weight that’s readily apparent the second you play any of their songs.

Arriving on September 30, ‘Another Broken Glass’ stays true to their mantra. It captures the chaos of lightning in a bottle caused by Honest Work’s performances, with the EP itself tracked live to a vintage 70s tape machine at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios. They’re a band that wants to create the live experience on record and this goes some way to mimicking that feel. New single ‘Energy’ feels like it’s stadium-sized for a band that should one day get there – belting-chorus driven anthem-filler has heart-beating rhythm and a thunderous bass growl. The set stand-outs brilliantly, and the live experience of Honest Work is a must for those with their ear to the ground for new music.

Speaking more about the new single, a follow-up to last month’s ‘The Final Prose’ - the band say “Energy is a song about being frustrated or stuck in a rut with romance. The repeated line “I get this feeling”, is used to represent the feeling of going nowhere, just the same thing repeatedly. And then the chorus is a burst of energy (hence the name), an outburst of emotion from the locked jaws of the situation at hand.”

They have already played at festivals like Outer Town and Left of the Dial, and supported bands like Westside Cowboy, Home Counties, Martial Arts and Grandma’s House, and already has grassroots credibility with members of bands like Lemondaze and Saloon Dion among their number.
