Rora And The Untamed Share Debut Album ‘Do you Like Me Now’

All hail The Last Dinner Party’s Aurora Nishevci and Nathen Durasamy, their new outfit Rora and the Untaimed share album number one ‘Do You Like Me Now’.

Side projects of bands are always fun and side projects of bands as good as The Last Dinner Party are always worth taking note. Rora and the Untamed, the new project of Aurora Nishevci and Nathen Durasamy, is appropiately bold and ambitious as one would expect. Very labyrinthine and reveals more and more with each listen, it’s a conflict of relationship of artist and one self that has come about now, due to both artists being incredibly experienced at this time in their careers - The Last Dinner Party are an arena level band all in their own right at this point.

“Ultimately this record is about our relationship to being artists.” Aurora and Nathen say of their debut album. “There’s this inner conflict of simultaneously wanting to be seen and not seen, wanting to be in the shadows and wanting to have the spotlight. It is about questioning ourselves as artists, our motivations, our affect and our relationships to people and to our careers.”

It is an incredibly quick turnaround, their partnership was revealed a month ago with debut single ‘Savage White Swan’, which built and built from a slow burn orchestral beat, and that blend of electro pop and classical swirls gives Last Dinner Party fans plenty to love. The record feels incredibly personal, as ‘Do You Like Me Now?’ - pulls from historic and the personal on ‘Artisan Lover’, which tackles with Aurora & Nathen’s each imprint on their own life experiences on the album’s track and the subliminal messages fed to girls within a patriarchal society.

Recognisable to many as The Last Dinner Party’s keytar-wielding multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, Rora and the Untamed marks Aurora’s first foray to centre stage that hopefully doesn’t remain a one-album piece. Outside of his work in film and television composition, British-born Mauritian composer Nathen Durasamy worked alongside Aurora to orchestrate The Last Dinner Party’s BRIT-nominated second album From The Pyre, as well as contributing additional music on the Emmy-nominated BBC score Kingdom with David Attenborough.
