Sony Unveils Three New ULT POWER SOUND Speakers
Sony has expanded its ULT POWER SOUND range with three new bass-focused party speakers, developed with input from a group of hip-hop producers and musicians.
Sony has announced three new additions to its ULT POWER SOUND speaker range, with the ULT TOWER MAX, ULT TOWER 7 and ULT TOWER 5 all set to arrive this September. The new generation of party speakers places a particular emphasis on bass, combining newly developed circular woofers with larger speaker cabinets and Sony’s ULT DUCT technology, which the company says allows the speakers to produce stronger low-frequency performance than previous entries in the series. Sitting at the top of the range is the ULT TOWER MAX, which features three woofers, two at the front and another at the rear, alongside an amplifier capable of delivering up to 2,150 watts of output. The ULT TOWER 7 offers up to 420 watts, while the smaller ULT TOWER 5 reaches up to 300 watts.
Sony also enlisted several figures from the hip-hop world during the development process, including Grammy-nominated producer Dot Da Genius, drummer and producer Daru Jones, producer and DJ Dready and engineer Dennis “ROC.am” Jones. Feedback from the group was used during the tuning process, with Sony focusing particularly on deeper low frequencies, greater impact and clearer vocals. All three speakers also feature Sony’s ULT button, giving listeners access to a number of different sound profiles. ULT1 focuses on deeper bass, while ULT2 increases bass and overall sound pressure, with FLAT providing a more neutral presentation and LIVE intended to recreate some of the spaciousness of a live performance. Users can make further adjustments through the Sony | Sound Connect app. The ULT TOWER MAX and ULT TOWER 7 additionally feature Sony’s 360° Party Sound system, designed to spread audio throughout a space, while Enhanced Sound Field Optimization analyses the position of the speaker and surrounding noise levels before automatically adjusting the overall sound balance.
As you might expect from speakers largely built with parties in mind, Sony has also packed the new range with DJ and karaoke features. Connections include XLR, RCA and USB-C, while compatible speakers can be paired together for stereo playback. The new Auracast-based Party Chain feature allows multiple compatible Sony speakers to be connected, synchronising both their music and lighting. That lighting comes with three different settings: BEAT reacts to the rhythm of the music, WAVE provides more dynamic ambient effects and MELLOW slows things down for more relaxed listening. Sony’s optional ULTMIC1 microphone can also be connected for karaoke, while all three speakers can be positioned either vertically or horizontally depending on the space available.
Portability has been another focus across the range, with the ULT TOWER MAX and ULT TOWER 7 receiving upgraded wheels alongside carry handles intended to make them easier to move around. The TOWER 7 and TOWER 5 also have an IPX4 water-resistance rating when positioned vertically, making them better suited to outdoor use, while battery life reaches up to 30 hours on the TOWER 7 and 20 hours on the TOWER 5. Sony has also increased its use of recycled materials, with approximately 35% of the plastic used in the ULT TOWER MAX coming from recycled sources and around 20% in both the TOWER 7 and TOWER 5.
The launch also coincides with a new partnership between Sony and Red Bull Dance Your Style 2026, with Sony becoming an official wireless speaker partner for events including the US National Final in September and the World Final in Switzerland in October. All three ULT POWER SOUND models will arrive in September 2026, with the ULT TOWER MAX priced at £1,299, the ULT TOWER 7 at £499 and the ULT TOWER 5 at £349.
