Tokyo Tea Room release New Single ‘Hypnotised’ ahead of their new EP
Tokyo Tea Room’s new single ‘Hypnotised’ arrives ahead of a new EP, ‘Feel Forever’, out September 18 via French tastemakers Nice Guys as the Margate psych-pop band finally meet the many faces of their 1.2m monthly listeners.
Ahead of the September 18 album launch Feel Forever, Tokyo Tea Room share their final preview with new single ‘Hypnotised’ that plunges the band into a dreamlike psych spell that sets its sights on enthralling and obsessive love that consumes us all.
“Hypnotised,” explains songwriter Dan Elliot, “is about that feeling of being completely drawn in when everything else aroudn you seems to blur. “It's the uncertainty and fantasy that contribute to the excitement of something new, and I wanted to reflect that in this song, kinda like a soundtrack to your mind wandering into a daydream.”
It follows Tokyo Tea Room’s entrancing ‘All Night’ and ‘Eyes Off You’ that explore infatuation further, and arrives with an animated video from New York artist Chris Mulligan that’s as stylistically unique as the single itself.
Elliot’s songwriting has led to the creation of ‘Feel Forever’ during the recent heatwave of England’s summer months in sunny Margate, an idealistic location that seems ripe for an explosion in a music scene akin to places like Brighton and Leeds. The early recordings have already seen the goodwill for Tokyo Tea Room grow - 100m streams surpassed already ahead of their first cluster of shows means you’ve got a very special band on your hands here; and their first cluster of UK and US shows 6 months ago already sold out. With the announcement for ‘Eyes Off You’, previous single, the band also brought forward a 31 date tour across Europe, the UK and the US - with interest growing around the quintet and labels knocking at their door.
It’s a hallmark to Tokyo Tea Room’s success that they went with Bordeaux label Nice Guys, who have championed international artists since 2017 - remaining steadfast for their commitment to the independent scene. You’re watching a band graduate from ‘just’ hobbyists into something with a rapidly growing cult following that has already graduated to the lofty Highbury Garage in London, along with iconic venues like Bristol’s Exchange.
